Case Study: YES Prep Raises More than $1 Million with Charity Virtual Poker Tournament
Over 200 players joined together to participate in The 16th Annual YES Prep Public Schools Texas Hold’em Oil & Gas Tournament. The tournament included interactive Zoom breakout rooms for each individual table, allowing players to chat, interact, and show off their best poker face to their fellow players.
“Moving to a virtual poker setting was so different from our typical event and they truly made it fun with stellar service and support,” said Caitlin Monteith from YES Prep. “We officially raised $1,150,569 all in support of YES Prep students!”
The participants and players of the tournament first joined together on a large Zoom call to enjoy a video highlighting all the unbelievable work that YES Prep does for the Houston community. The YES Prep School System helps over 15,000 students in the Houston area and helps provide life changing opportunities inside, as well as outside of the classroom.
With over 200 entries and more than 270 rebuys and chip-ups, the action on the night was non stop. Every entry, rebuy, and chip-up was a generous donation to the YES Prep Public School system. Players all joined their individual tables to play down to one winner per table. After the winners were decided, those lucky winners played in a Tournament of Champions to decide the one ultimate winner for the night.
“We are thrilled to hear the amazing virtual poker fundraising results for YES Prep,” said Tom Wheaton, Founder & CEO. “It’s remarkable that the game of poker can be utilized in such a positive and purposeful way. The donors, sponsors and supporters of YES Prep truly showed what is possible when it comes to poker and philanthropy. Congrats to all involved!”
YESPrep has been hosting a Texas Hold ‘Em Poker tournament for the past 16 years and is considered the signature fundraising event for the YES Prep School System. During the years of running this tournament, over $16 Million dollars have been raised for the Houston school system.
